How Bastian works.

Where his answers come from, what’s watching them as they form, and where the account plumbing actually lives. Short version: he answers from your content, and every reply is checked in real time before anyone sees it.

Overview

Meet the assistant, and his home.

Bastian is an AI assistant you drop onto your own website. Visitors ask him questions in a small chat bubble; he answers from your site’s own content, and says so plainly when he doesn’t know. His home is heybastian.com — where you meet him, read these docs, and get the one line of code that puts him on your site.

What sets him apart isn’t the chatting — plenty of tools do that. It’s that every reply is checked, as it’s being written, by PsiGuard. That check is the reason he acts less like a script and more like someone who knows his limits.

How he answers

From your words, not the internet’s best guess.

Bastian draws his answers from your own pages. Ask him about your hours, your returns policy, or which plan fits, and he answers from what you’ve actually published — not from a general-purpose model’s vague memory of the web.

And when he’s past the edge of what your content covers, he tells you so instead of inventing something that sounds right. A plain “I’m not sure” is a feature here, not a failure — it’s the difference between an answer you can stand behind and one you have to walk back.

The safety layer

What PsiGuard watches — the whole shape, not one tripwire.

PsiGuard is a product in its own right, already running at psiguard.net. It doesn’t grade Bastian’s answer against a banned-word list or hand it to a second model for a second opinion. Instead, it reads the structure of the reasoning itself, in real time, as the reply is being built — watching whether the whole thing stays sound.

It’s easy to talk about this as “catching drift,” and drift — a reply quietly coming loose from the question — is one of the things it watches. But it’s only one. PsiGuard reads several qualities of a reply at once: whether it stays coherent, whether it drifts from what was asked, whether it stays orderly instead of sliding toward noise, and whether it stays anchored to the right context and memory. Taken together, that’s a live read on whether the answer is holding its shape — not just whether it wandered.

If that shape starts to give way while the reply forms, it’s caught before anyone sees it: retried, or Bastian simply says he isn’t sure. Exactly how PsiGuard measures any of this stays under the hood — that’s the part you can’t buy off a shelf — but the effect is visible in every answer that reaches your visitors.

Where things run

Bastian runs his own front desk.

Bastian lives at heybastian.com — and so does your account. Signing in, paying, and your license all happen right here, handled by Bastian's own backend. Signing up for Bastian never creates an account on psiguard.net, and neither you nor your visitors ever get sent there.

Concretely, three familiar services do the heavy lifting, so you only ever deal with Bastian:

Signing in
Handled by Firebase Authentication in Bastian's own project. Your Bastian login is yours alone — it's fully separate from PsiGuard, and nothing carries across.
Billing
Handled by Stripe, run by Bastian's own backend. Plans, upgrades, and receipts all happen here — you just see Bastian's pricing.
Your settings
Stored in a secure database operated by PsiCo — the company behind both products — and read back into Bastian as needed.

The link to PsiGuard is a single secured service connection that lives on Bastian's servers, owned and managed by PsiCo. Every one of his replies travels through it for the real-time check described above — but you never need a PsiGuard key or account. Your Bastian license key is the only key you'll ever see.

Add him to your site

One line, before the closing tag.

If you can paste a line of code into your site, you can run Bastian — there’s nothing to configure and no platform to be locked into.

  1. Create your account and grab your embed snippet from the setup page. It carries your own license key.
  2. Paste it just before the closing </body> tag on any page you want him on.
  3. That’s it. The bubble appears, and Bastian starts answering from your content right away.

Quick answers

Good to know.

Can I turn Bastian's face or animations off?

Yes — in your dashboard under Appearance → Widget Face, pick the full animated character, a clean plain bubble with no face, or your own logo on the bubble. And either way, for visitors who have "reduce motion" turned on in their device settings, the animations pause automatically.

Will my visitors know a reply is being checked?

No. The check happens as the answer forms, fast enough that people only ever see the finished reply — never the work behind it.

What happens when Bastian isn’t sure?

He says so, in plain words, rather than guessing. If a reply starts to come loose while it’s forming, it’s retried or held back — so an honest “I don’t know” is the worst case, not a confident wrong answer.

Will the widget slow my page down?

It loads deferred, so it doesn’t block your page from showing. The monitoring runs on the PsiGuard side as the reply is built, not in your visitor’s browser.

Where do billing and sign-in actually live?

Right here at heybastian.com — see Where things run. Your account, plan, and receipts are all Bastian's own; PsiGuard's only job is checking his replies. Signing up for Bastian never creates a PsiGuard account.

One more thing

There’s a turtle. His name is Larry.

Bastian takes his job seriously. He does not take turtles seriously. Somewhere on this site is Larry — a hard-hatted turtle who occasionally forklifts an absurd stack of pancakes across the bottom of your screen, then trundles off like nothing happened.

Want to find him? Ask Bastian “Where’s Larry?” and see what rolls by. It’s pure fun and entirely local to heybastian.com — the question never leaves your browser, costs nothing, and will never show up on a customer’s embedded widget. Some things are just for the home crowd.

Give your visitors someone to ask.

Add Bastian in a minute, throw your trickiest questions at him, and watch how he handles the ones he can’t answer.
